UPAL celebrated our 20th anniversary in April 2016.

Thanks to family, friends and the many supporters who joined us to make this a memorable occasion.  We could not have done it without

all of you.  We are pleased to have been of service to the community since 1996, advocating on behalf of lead poisoned children. This year’s Purple Ball featured an audience participated fashion show where everyone modeled their perfect purple apparel.

Our 20th anniversary Purple Ball fundraiser was themed LEAD is NOT a Laughing Matter and featured a trio of comedians headlined by funnyman Jaye’ Toler, a regular at the Richmond Funny Bone.  He had the audience laughing and rolling in our seats.

The evening culminated with Queen Zakia Shabazz being honored by her family for sustained exemplary leadership of UPAL.
